“With Eyes of Faith” was commissioned as part of the Legends of the Grand Valley series and was installed in Grand Junction, Colorado in 2010.
The 1-1/4 life size bronze depicts Sister Mary Balbina Farrell who was responsible for raising money and overseeing the building of St. Mary’s hospital. In the sculpture, the young nun, dressed in a 1890’s era habit, sketches her design for the first hospital and gestures north to the location where St. Mary’s Hospital now stands at 7th Street and Patterson Road. With eyes of faith, she is sharing her vision of the future with a child who will be cared for, together with future generations, at the hospital. The 10 bed hospital opened in 1896.
